Abstract
This study was attempted to develop a Korean version of the Beck depression inventory(K-BDI). Employing general population, validity and reliability of K-BDI were examined. We made K-BDI T score norm as the cutoff score criteria and STEN score
norm
as a
index of severity of depression. The subjects were 3,896/4,316 who were the adults in 35 areas sampled by multistage sampling method. Cornhach's internal consistency was .86, Spearman-Brown split half correlation coeffciency was .75 in male
group,
and
each of them was .84, .75 in female group, and .85, .75 in grand total group respectively. Validity test was performed by construct validation analysis. By iterated principal axis factoring, 4 factors were extracted : I. guilty and self-dislike,
II.
Negative self image and psychomotor retardation, III. Somatic aspect, IV. Emotional expression and negative cognition. We used T score 65 as a cutoff score. T score 65 corresponded to raw score 23 in male group, raw score 24 in female group, and
raw
score 24 in grand total grolup. Severity level of depression was measured by a STEN score. In male grouup, each of the score of 16-19, 20-23, over 24 suggested the severity of subclinical, manifest, and sever. Each of the score of 17-20, 21-24,
over 25
in female group and the score of 17-20, 21-34, over 24 in grand total group also suggested the same severity as like in male group respectively.
